Franz Kafka

Franz Kafka was a visionary author, philosopher, and modernist icon, best known for his exploration of alienation, bureaucracy, and the absurdity of modern life. His works, often marked by surreal and nightmarish scenarios, probe the fragile boundary between reality and illusion. Though much of his writing was published posthumously, Kafka has become one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century.

Born in 1883 in Prague, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Kafka was raised in a middle-class Jewish family and educated in law. He led a dual life as an insurance clerk by day and a writer by night. His most famous works include The Metamorphosis, The Trial, and The Castle—stories that reflect his inner anxieties and deep skepticism of authority. Despite his wish for his unpublished manuscripts to be destroyed, his friend Max Brod preserved and shared them with the world.
