P. V. Sindhu (Pusarla Venkata Sindhu), born on 5 July 1995 in Hyderabad, India, is one of the nation’s most celebrated badminton stars. Raised in an athletic household—both her parents were national-level volleyball players, with her father receiving the Arjuna Award—Sindhu discovered badminton at the age of eight and quickly rose through India’s junior circuit. By 2012 she had earned her place in the top 20 globally, and in April 2017 she achieved her career-high world ranking at No. 2 +15+15+15.

Her illustrious career includes being the first Indian woman to win the BWF World Championship gold (2019), and earning Olympic medals—silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020, making her the only Indian to secure two consecutive singles Olympic medals. Sindhu has received numerous national honours such as the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Khel Ratna, and Arjuna Award, reflecting her significant achievements in the sport +4+4+4.
