Kirsten Gillibrand

Kirsten Gillibrand is an American lawyer, author, and politician serving as the junior United States Senator from New York since 2009. Born on December 9, 1966, Gillibrand graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and earned her law degree from the UCLA School of Law. Before entering politics, she worked as an attorney and served as special counsel to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Andrew Cuomo during the Clinton administration. In 2006, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York's 20th congressional district, and was appointed to the Senate in 2009 following Hillary Clinton's appointment as Secretary of State.

Throughout her political career, Gillibrand has been a vocal advocate for women's rights, military reform, and paid family leave. She introduced legislation to increase funding for healthcare and support for victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
