Joseph B. Wirthlin was a respected American businessman and religious leader who served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Born on June 11, 1917, in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the eldest of five children. Wirthlin excelled in athletics during his youth, playing football at both the high school and university levels. He served a mission in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland from 1936 to 1939, and upon returning, he took over his family's business after his father was called to serve as the Presiding Bishop of the Church.

In 1975, Wirthlin was called as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and in 1986, he was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve. Throughout his service, he held various leadership positions, including overseeing Church affairs in Europe, the Caribbean, and parts of the United States. He was known for his humility, kindness, and heartfelt sermons, often focusing on themes such as love, service, and perseverance.

One of his most memorable quotes is: “Come what may, and love it,” which he shared in a talk reflecting on how to find joy and peace amidst life's challenges. Another insightful statement is: “Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. We all will experience those broken times when it seems we can never be put together again. But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come.” These reflections encapsulate his message of hope and resilience.
