Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician, military officer, and author, known for her service as the 8th Director of National Intelligence since 2025. Born on April 12, 1981, in Leloaloa, American Samoa, she made history as the first Hindu and Samoan-American elected to the U.S. Congress, representing Hawaii's 2nd district from 2013 to 2021. A veteran of the Hawaii Army National Guard, Gabbard served two Middle East deployments, including in Iraq and Kuwait, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

In 2022, Gabbard transitioned from the Democratic Party to become an Independent, and later joined the Republican Party in 2024. She gained national attention during her tenure as Director of National Intelligence, particularly for her allegations that the Obama administration fabricated intelligence to support the narrative of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Gabbard declassified documents she claimed showed that intelligence officials under former President Barack Obama misrepresented Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. She characterized this as a "treasonous conspiracy" and referred Obama-era officials to the Justice Department for potential prosecution.

Among her notable quotes, Gabbard has said, "We need to stop judging individuals based on their race, profession, gender, religion, or anything other than their own individual behavior and character." Another significant statement is, "Every single American deserves to be treated equally by their fellow Americans and under the law." These reflections underscore her commitment to equality, justice, and individual integrity.
