Hooper's early television work includes directing episodes of Quayside, Byker Grove, EastEnders, and Cold Feet. His breakthrough in film came with the historical drama The King's Speech (2010), which earned him the Academy Award for Best Director .

Throughout his career, Hooper has directed several notable films, including Les Misérables (2012), The Danish Girl (2015), and the adaptation of Cats (2019). His work is characterized by a focus on historical narratives and complex characters.
