Timothy Simons is an American actor and comedian best known for his portrayal of Jonah Ryan on the HBO political satire series Veep (2012–2019). Born on June 12, 1978, in Readfield, Maine, Simons graduated from the University of Maine in 2001 with a degree in theater. Before his breakout role, he worked in various commercials and had a brief stint as a cater-waiter at Frances Bean Cobain's 16th birthday party . His performance on Veep earned him five nominations and one win for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series .
In addition to his work on Veep, Simons has appeared in several films, including The Interview (2014), Christine (2016), and The Boss (2016). He has also lent his voice to animated series such as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Robot Chicken, and Rugrats, where he voices Drew Pickles . As of 2024, Simons stars in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This and is set to appear in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as King Tantalus .
Simons is known for his witty and self-deprecating humor. Reflecting on his high school years, he remarked, “I was a terrible high school student outside of the fact that I did well in physics, but there's a big difference between being good at physics and being a physicist, so I jettisoned that very quickly” . He also commented on the public's perception of actors, saying, “It's a funny thing, I think people meet us and they assume that we know a lot more about politics than we actually do” . Off-screen, Simons enjoys photography and has a personal interest in capturing moments, influenced by his father's background as a photographer .
