Selena
Selena, born Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas, was a beloved American singer, fashion designer, and author, often referred to as the “Queen of Tejano Music.” Rising to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s, she became one of the most influential Latin artists of all time. With her vibrant performances and crossover appeal, Selena broke barriers in a male-dominated genre, earning a Grammy Award and millions of fans before her life was tragically cut short in 1995.
In addition to her groundbreaking music career, Selena was also an accomplished entrepreneur and budding author. She launched her own clothing line and dreamed of writing more about her life and cultural experiences. Though her own published writing was limited due to her untimely death, her personal diaries, interviews, and lyrics have been shared widely and posthumously recognized for their warmth, insight, and inspiration. Her story has been immortalized in books and the biographical film Selena (1997), starring Jennifer Lopez.
Among her most memorable quotes, Selena once said: “Always believe that the impossible is always possible.” Another touching quote is: “If you have a dream, don’t let anybody take it away.” These words reflect her enduring optimism, perseverance, and passion—qualities that continue to inspire generations of fans around the world.
