Scott Morrison is an Australian politician who served as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia from 2018 to 2022. Born on May 13, 1968, in Sydney, he was educated at the University of New South Wales, earning a degree in economic geography. Before entering politics, Morrison had a career in the tourism industry, notably as the managing director of Tourism Australia from 2004 to 2006 . He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2007 for the Cook electorate in New South Wales and held various ministerial roles, including Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Treasurer, and Minister for Social Services .
As Prime Minister, Morrison led Australia through significant events, including the 2019–2020 bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2022 eastern Australia floods . His government implemented the AUKUS security pact with the United States and the United Kingdom, aimed at enhancing defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region . However, his tenure was marked by controversy, notably his handling of the bushfire crisis and the revelation that he had secretly appointed himself to multiple ministerial positions during the pandemic, leading to public criticism and an inquiry into the matter .
Morrison is known for his candid and sometimes provocative quotes. One such remark is: “The best thing I can do for someone who's not in a job is get them in a job, and this government has had the greatest success of any government at getting Australians into work.” Another notable statement is: “Operation Sovereign Borders has been one of Australia's greatest national security policy successes.” These quotes reflect his focus on economic employment and border security during his time in office.
