He later founded Schumacher College and served as editor of the influential magazine Resurgence & Ecologist for over 40 years .
As an author, Satish Kumar has written several books exploring spirituality, ecology, and social justice, including No Destination: Autobiography of a Pilgrim, You Are, Therefore I Am, Soul, Soil, Society, and Elegant Simplicity . His writings emphasize interconnectedness, simple living, and spiritual awareness as foundations for societal transformation. He argues that true progress comes from inner growth and ecological harmony rather than relentless materialism .
Quotes from Satish Kumar reflect his vision of peace, simplicity, and environmental stewardship:
“Human happiness, true prosperity and joyful living can only emerge from a life of elegant simplicity, embedded in the arts and crafts.”
“Earth is a living entity. … we have to have a reverence for all life.”
“Look at what realists have done for us... Half of humanity lies down hungry because of all the realistic leaders in the world.” Through his life journey, writings, and actions, Satish Kumar remains a guiding voice for nonviolence, ecological respect, and conscious living.
