Roy Keane
Roy Keane is a former Irish professional footballer, manager, and author, widely regarded as one of the most influential midfielders of his generation. Born in Cork, Ireland in 1971, he began his football career at Cobh Ramblers before moving to Nottingham Forest and later achieving legendary status at Manchester United. As team captain under Sir Alex Ferguson, Keane helped the club win numerous titles, including seven Premier League championships and a Champions League trophy, earning a reputation for his intense leadership and fierce competitiveness.
After retiring from playing, Keane transitioned into coaching and football punditry, bringing the same fiery personality to his commentary. He also managed clubs such as Sunderland and Ipswich Town, and served as assistant manager for both the Republic of Ireland national team and Aston Villa. His brutally honest and often confrontational style has made him both respected and controversial in equal measure.
As an author, Roy Keane has published two autobiographies: Keane: The Autobiography and The Second Half, both of which offer unfiltered insights into his mindset and career. One of his most memorable quotes is: “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” Another reflects his no-nonsense attitude: “There’s too many bluffers, and I'm not one of them.” These statements encapsulate his belief in discipline, hard work, and authenticity—values that have defined his life on and off the pitch.
