Richard Carmona (born 1949) is an American physician, public health expert, and former U.S. Surgeon General. Appointed by President George W. Bush in 2002, Carmona served as the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, where he focused on a variety of public health issues, including tobacco cessation, health disparities, and childhood obesity.
