Born in Clarksville, Tennessee, Summitt began playing basketball at a young age and later became the youngest coach in NCAA history when she took over the Lady Vols at just 22 years old. Over her 38-year coaching career, she amassed 1,098 wins, the most in NCAA basketball history at the time, and led her team to eight NCAA national championships.

Summitt was widely respected not only for her coaching prowess but also for her dedication to mentorship, leadership, and the advancement of women's sports.
