Neel Mukherjee

Neel Mukherjee is an Indian-born author acclaimed for his richly layered and socially insightful novels. Born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1970, he studied English at Oxford University and later completed a PhD at Cambridge. His works are known for their exploration of family dynamics, class divisions, and the intersections of personal and political histories, often drawing upon his deep understanding of both Indian society and broader global contexts.

Among his notable works, Mukherjee has written A Life Apart (2008), which won the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award for Best Fiction, and The Lives of Others (2014), which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
