Mohammad Azharuddin

Mohammad Azharuddin (born 8 February 1963 in Hyderabad, India) is a former Indian cricketer, renowned for his graceful batting style and agile fielding. He made a sensational debut in 1984 by scoring three consecutive centuries in his first three Test matches. Over the course of his career, he represented India in 99 Tests and 334 ODIs, captaining the national team in the 1990s. Azharuddin was particularly admired for his wristy stroke play and is regarded as one of India’s most stylish and technically gifted batsmen.

Despite a prolific cricketing career, Azharuddin's legacy became complex due to his alleged involvement in a match-fixing scandal in 2000, which led to a life ban later overturned by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2012. Following his retirement, he turned to politics, joining the Indian National Congress and serving as a Member of Parliament from 2009 to 2014.
