Martin O'Malley is an American politician and attorney who served as the 61st Governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015 and as the 48th Mayor of Baltimore from 1999 to 2007. Born on January 18, 1963, in Washington, D.C., O'Malley earned a B.A. in Political Science from The Catholic University of America and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He began his political career on the Baltimore City Council in 1991 and was elected mayor in 1999, focusing on reducing crime and improving city services. As governor, he implemented progressive policies on issues such as same-sex marriage, gun control, and healthcare reform .
O'Malley is known for his emphasis on >"StateStat" and "CityStat" programs, which used performance metrics to improve government efficiency.
