Marc Garneau

Marc Garneau (1949–2025) was a Canadian naval officer, astronaut, and politician who made history as the first Canadian to travel into space. Born in Quebec City, he earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering physics from the Royal Military College of Canada and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Imperial College London. Garneau served as a combat systems engineer in the Royal Canadian Navy before being selected as one of the first Canadian astronauts in 1983.
