Lynn Nottage

Lynn Nottage is a celebrated American playwright and screenwriter, known for her powerful explorations of race, gender, and social justice. Born in 1964 in Brooklyn, New York, Nottage studied at Brown University and earned her MFA from Yale School of Drama. Her work is often inspired by real-life stories and deep research, giving voice to historically marginalized communities, particularly Black women. She is the first and only woman to have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice.

Among her most acclaimed works are Intimate Apparel, Ruined, and Sweat. Ruined, set in the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, won her first Pulitzer Prize in 2009, while Sweat, which examines the lives of factory workers in Pennsylvania, earned her a second in 2017. Her plays are known for their emotional depth, humanity, and their unflinching look at economic and social inequities in America and beyond.
