Liz Cheney
Liz Cheney
Liz Cheney is an American politician, attorney, and former U.S. Representative from Wyoming, serving from 2017 to 2023. Born on July 28, 1966, in Madison, Wisconsin, Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney. Growing up in a prominent political family, she developed a passion for public service and went on to earn a law degree from University of Chicago Law School. Before her congressional career, Cheney held various positions, including serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs during the George W. Bush administration.
As a Republican representative, Cheney became known for her strong stance on national security and her support for a robust military defense. However, she gained national attention for her outspoken opposition to the Trump administration, particularly after the events surrounding the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Cheney’s decision to vote for Donald Trump's impeachment and her subsequent criticism of his actions led to her removal from her position as House Republican Conference Chair in 2021. Despite this, she remained an advocate for the values she believes the Republican Party should uphold, particularly in terms of integrity and democracy.
One of Cheney’s most memorable quotes is: "The Republican Party is at a turning point. We can choose truth and principles, or we can choose lies and deceit." This statement reflects her commitment to upholding democratic principles and speaking out against what she saw as the erosion of those values in her party. Cheney’s political career, marked by both her steadfastness and her willingness to challenge her own party, has made her a controversial yet respected figure in American politics.
