Kim Jong Il

Kim Jong Il was the Supreme Leader of North Korea from 1994 until his death in 2011. Born in 1941 (though officially stated as 1942) in Khabarovsk, Soviet Union, he was the son of Kim Il-sung, the founder of North Korea. Kim Jong Il's reign was marked by a strong emphasis on military power, self-reliance (known as Juche), and the cult of personality that surrounded him and his family. Under his leadership, North Korea continued its development of nuclear weapons and maintained its isolation from much of the international community. His leadership style was authoritarian, and his regime was characterized by extreme control over the population and the suppression of dissent.

Before taking power, Kim Jong Il was involved in the political and military apparatus of North Korea, gradually gaining influence. He was known for his obsession with control, propaganda, and military buildup, as well as his interest in cinema. Kim Jong Il was also famous for his eccentricities, such as reportedly directing and producing films in his own country. His leadership maintained the totalitarian state and perpetuated the Kim dynasty that continues with his son, Kim Jong Un.

One of his famous quotes is, "The people are the masters of the revolution." Another notable line from Kim Jong Il is, "A strong and prosperous nation is built on the unity and dedication of the people." These quotes reflect his commitment to upholding the revolutionary spirit and self-reliance of North Korea, emphasizing his focus on the military-first policy and the ideological purity of his regime.
