Kenny Marchant is a former American politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 24th congressional district from 2005 to 2021. Born on February 23, 1951, in Bonham, Texas, Marchant grew up in Carrollton, a suburb of Dallas. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Southern Nazarene University in 1974 and briefly attended Nazarene Theological Seminary. Before entering politics, he worked as a real estate developer and owned a homebuilding company. His political career began with service on the Carrollton City Council from 1980 to 1984, followed by a term as mayor from 1984 to 1986. He then served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2004. In 2004, Marchant was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served until announcing his retirement in 2019, choosing not to seek re-election in 2020 .
