Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao

Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão is an East Timorese political leader, revolutionary, and author, born on June 20, 1946, in Laleia, East Timor. He is best known for his leadership in the East Timorese independence movement and his role as the first President of East Timor from 2002 to 2007. Gusmão also served as the Prime Minister from 2007 to 2015, guiding the country through a period of nation-building after East Timor gained independence from Indonesia in 2002.
