Karl Liebknecht

Karl Liebknecht was a notable German socialist, political activist, and revolutionary, famous for his outspoken opposition to militarism and capitalism. Born in 1871 in Leipzig, Germany, Liebknecht was the son of a prominent liberal politician and became a founding member of the Spartacist League and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). His activism was marked by fierce resistance to World War I and the German imperial government, which led to multiple imprisonments.

Throughout his political career, Liebknecht championed workers’ rights and social justice, advocating for a proletarian revolution. Alongside Rosa Luxemburg, he played a central role in the German Revolution of 1918–1919, which aimed to overthrow the monarchy and establish a socialist republic. Liebknecht's dedication to his cause made him a martyr after he was assassinated in 1919 during the violent suppression of the Spartacist uprising.
