Karan Kapoor is an Indian author, photographer, and former actor, celebrated for his contributions to both the arts and literature. Born in Mumbai in 1962, he is the son of legendary actor Shashi Kapoor and British actress Jennifer Kendal, making him part of the iconic Kapoor family of Indian cinema. After acting in films during the 1980s, he shifted his focus to photography, where he developed a reputation for capturing striking portraits and everyday life in India with authenticity and depth.

As an author, Kapoor has published works that bring together his photography and reflections on identity, heritage, and cultural memory. His books often blend images with thoughtful commentary, documenting the complexity of Indian society and its transformations over time. Through his writing and lens, he highlights stories of ordinary people, giving voice to narratives that might otherwise remain unseen.

Reflecting his outlook, Kapoor has said: “Every photograph is a story waiting to be told.” He has also remarked: “Art should be honest—it must reflect both beauty and struggle.” These quotes capture his belief in truth, storytelling, and authenticity, principles that guide both his photography and his work as an author.
