Kal Penn is an American actor, author, and former White House staffer, best known for his roles in the Harold & Kumar film series and the hit television show House. Born April 23, 1977, in Montclair, New Jersey, Penn pursued a career in acting while attending University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he studied theater. His breakthrough role came in the stoner comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004), where he played the fun-loving Kumar Patel, a role he reprised in the sequel films. Penn’s performance in House as Dr. Lawrence Kutner further solidified his popularity in mainstream television.
