Jon Watts (born June 28, 1981, in Fountain, Colorado) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in both independent and blockbuster cinema. He studied film at New York University and began his career directing commercials and short films. Watts gained significant recognition with his feature directorial debut, Clown (2014), a horror film that he co-wrote. His success in the indie film scene led to his selection by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), followed by its sequels Far From Home (2019) and No Way Home (2021), all of which were critical and commercial successes .

Beyond the Spider-Man trilogy, Watts directed the action-comedy Wolfs (2024), starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The film, which follows two rival fixers forced to collaborate on a job, was released by Apple TV+ after a limited theatrical run. Watts expressed his disappointment with the film's distribution, stating that he was "completely shocked" by the decision to limit its theatrical release and that he no longer trusted Apple as a creative partner . Additionally, he served as the showrunner and directed episodes of the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew .

Watts is known for his candid reflections on filmmaking. He has said, “You get really scrappy when you’re making things for zero dollars, and you just have to keep thinking like that. It’s not like, ‘Oh, we now have a little bit more money, let’s do things differently.’ If you just keep boiling it down to the simplest possible way to make it, I think that always ends up being the best.” This quote reflects his approach to filmmaking, emphasizing creativity and resourcefulness over budget .
