John Rocha

John Rocha is a renowned Macanese-Irish fashion designer, born in Hong Kong on August 23, 1953. He moved to London in the 1970s to study at the Croydon School of Art and later settled in Ireland. In the 1980s, Rocha gained recognition with his Chinatown label in Dublin, known for intricate beading and appliqué work. His designs often blend Asian silhouettes with Irish textiles, such as linen and sheepskin, reflecting his multicultural heritage. By 1993, he was named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards .

Beyond fashion, Rocha has expanded his creative endeavors into interior design, contributing to projects like the Morrison Hotel in Dublin and the Orion Building in Birmingham. He also collaborated with Waterford Crystal, designing a range of cut crystal stemware and vases. His work is characterized by a commitment to quality craftsmanship and a fusion of cultural influences, establishing him as a versatile designer with a global perspective .

Reflecting on his design philosophy, Rocha has stated: “Whatever I design, it has to please my eye. If I go to work on an office block, I'll draw the office that I want to walk into. If it's a piece of crystal, it must feel the way I want it to feel in my hand.
