Jimmy Dean (1928–2010) was an American country music singer, television host, actor, and entrepreneur, best known for his 1961 hit song "Big Bad John" and for founding the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company. Born in Plainview, Texas, Dean rose from humble beginnings to become a multifaceted entertainer. He hosted The Jimmy Dean Show from 1963 to 1966, which was notable for introducing Jim Henson’s Muppets to a national audience .

Beyond his entertainment career, Dean was a savvy businessman. In 1969, he founded the Jimmy Dean Sausage Company, which he sold to Sara Lee in 1984. Despite selling the company, he remained its spokesperson until 2003. His involvement in the food industry was driven by a personal experience: after biting into a piece of gristle in his breakfast sausage, he remarked, “There has got to be room in this country for a good quality sausage!”

Dean's legacy is also marked by his memorable quotes, reflecting his wit and wisdom. One of his most famous sayings is: "I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." Another is: "Sausage is a great deal like life. You get out of it about what you put into it." These reflections encapsulate his philosophy on perseverance and the importance of effort in achieving success.
