Jerry Robinson
Jerry Robinson was an American author, illustrator, and comic book artist best known for his groundbreaking contributions to the Batman universe. Born in 1922 in Trenton, New Jersey, he began his career as a teenager when he was hired by Bob Kane, the creator of Batman. Robinson quickly made his mark by helping shape the mythology of one of the most enduring superheroes in history.
During his career, Robinson co-created some of Batman’s most iconic characters, including the Joker, who became one of the greatest villains in comic book history. He also played a major role in developing Robin, Batman’s sidekick, and contributed to the evolution of Gotham City itself. Beyond comics, he was also an author and advocate for creators’ rights, spending much of his later life championing fair recognition and compensation for artists and writers.
Known for his insightful quotes, Robinson once said: “Comics are an international language, they can cross boundaries and generations.” He also reflected on his most famous creation with: “The Joker came to life almost overnight. He was meant to be a one-shot villain, but he endured.” These words highlight both his passion for storytelling and his understanding of the cultural power of comic art.
