She is best known for her memoir Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More (2014), which became a New York Times bestseller and made her the first transgender woman of color to author a bestselling book. Mock has also worked as a contributing editor for Marie Claire and served as a staff editor for People magazine's website. She gained further prominence as a writer, director, and producer for the television series Pose, where she made history as the first trans woman of color to write and direct a television episode .
