Ian Hislop is a British journalist, satirist, and broadcaster, best known as the long-standing editor of the satirical magazine Private Eye. Born in Mumbles, Wales in 1960, he was educated at Ardingly College and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied English literature. Hislop took over as editor of Private Eye in 1986 at the age of just 26, shaping it into one of the UK’s most influential and fearless publications, known for its political satire and investigative journalism.

Beyond print journalism, Hislop is a familiar face on British television, particularly as a team captain on the long-running BBC quiz show "Have I Got News for You", where his quick wit and sharp commentary have made him a favorite among audiences. He has also written and presented numerous documentaries on history, politics, and culture, demonstrating his broad intellectual interests and commitment to holding power to account.

Known for his incisive and often humorous observations, Ian Hislop has said, "Satire is the bringing to ridicule of vice, folly, and humbug — and there’s plenty of that about." He has also remarked, "The role of a journalist is to be awkward, ask difficult questions, and never stop." These quotes reflect his dedication to speaking truth to power, challenging authority, and using humor as a tool for critique.
