Grace Lee Boggs was an influential American activist, philosopher, and writer, who dedicated her life to social justice and activism. Born on June 27, 1915, in Providence, Rhode Island, Boggs was the daughter of Chinese immigrants and grew up in a society shaped by racial and economic inequalities. She earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Barnard College and initially focused on Marxist thought. Over time, her activism broadened to address various social issues, including civil rights, labor rights, women’s rights, and environmental justice. She was deeply involved in the Detroit civil rights movement and spent much of her life working to improve the lives of marginalized communities.
