Gil Gerard is an American actor best known for his role as Captain William "Buck" Rogers in the 1979–1981 television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Born on January 23, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Gerard began his career in the entertainment industry after studying drama in New York City and working as a taxi driver. His breakthrough came when he was cast in the title role of Buck Rogers, a science fiction series that became a cultural touchstone of the late 1970s and early 1980s .

Following the success of Buck Rogers, Gerard appeared in various television movies and series, including Sidekicks (1986–1987) and E.A.R.T.H. Force (1990). He also hosted the reality series Code 3 (1992–1994), which followed emergency responders. In 2005, Gerard underwent a mini-gastric bypass surgery, documented in the Discovery Health Channel series Action Hero Makeover, which chronicled his journey to overcome obesity and related health issues .
