Emily Procter is an American actress and activist, born on October 8, 1968, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was adopted as an infant by William Procter, a general practitioner, and Barbara Jones, a volunteer worker. Raised in Raleigh, she attended East Carolina University, where she earned degrees in journalism and dance. Before pursuing acting, Procter worked as a television weather anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina .
Procter's acting career began with small roles in films such as Jerry Maguire (1996) and the TV movie Breast Men (1997). She gained recognition for her portrayal of Ainsley Hayes in the NBC political drama The West Wing (2000–2002; 2006) and as Detective Calleigh Duquesne in the CBS police procedural drama CSI: Miami (2002–2012) . In 2019, she founded Ground Breakers Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults in difficult situations develop positive identities .
Known for her wit and authenticity, Procter has shared various personal reflections. She once remarked, "It's amazing what sleep does for your looks," highlighting the importance of rest . Reflecting on motherhood, she said, "I started crying the other day just thinking that the baby is going to leave me soon! You have this relationship with this person in your belly and it's really amazing." She also expressed her perspective on marriage, stating, "I am hoping this is my year to have children. I understand that I am possibly more European in my views of marriage. I am not going to say I'm not going to get married, but it's not my priority" .
