Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge is a world-renowned Kenyan long-distance runner and widely regarded as one of the greatest marathoners in history. Born in 1984 in Kapsisiywa, Kenya, Kipchoge showed early promise as a talented athlete, winning gold in the 5000 meters at the 2003 World Championships and the 2004 Olympics. He later transitioned to marathon running, where he has set multiple records and won numerous prestigious races worldwide.

Kipchoge made history in 2019 by becoming the first person to run a marathon distance under two hours in the special event called the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, completing the race in 1:59:40. Although this feat was not recognized as an official world record due to the event’s unique conditions, it solidified his reputation for pushing the boundaries of human endurance. He holds the official marathon world record with a time of 2:01:39, set at the 2018 Berlin Marathon.
