Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Dieter F. Uchtdorf is a prominent German-American religious leader, author, and former airline executive, best known for his service as a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Born in Czechoslovakia in 1940, Uchtdorf and his family fled to West Germany during World War II, eventually settling in Frankfurt. His early experiences with war, displacement, and rebuilding deeply shaped his perspective on faith and resilience.

Before entering full-time religious service, Uchtdorf had a successful career in aviation. He trained as a fighter pilot in the German Air Force and later became a captain and executive with Lufthansa, Germany’s national airline.
