Denis McDonough is an American author, public servant, and policy advisor who has played influential roles in U.S. government. Born in Stillwater, Minnesota in 1969, he studied history and Spanish at Saint John’s University before earning a master’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University. Over the course of his career, he became a trusted advisor in national security and foreign policy, eventually serving as White House Chief of Staff under President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017.
