Dave Rowntree is an English musician, solicitor, animator, and political activist, best known as the drummer for the iconic Britpop band Blur. Born on May 8, 1964, in Colchester, Essex, Rowntree's early exposure to music came from his parents—his mother was a viola player, and his father was a sound engineer at the BBC . After studying computer science, he pursued a career in music and joined Blur in 1989, contributing to their rise to fame in the 1990s. Beyond his musical endeavors, Rowntree has explored various fields, including law, animation, and politics.

In addition to his music career, Rowntree has made significant contributions in other areas. He trained as a solicitor and worked in the criminal department of a London law firm. His interest in animation led him to own an animation company called Nanomation, and he directed two series of the animated show Empire Square. Rowntree has also been involved in politics, serving as a Labour councillor for Norfolk County Council from 2017 to 2021 and standing as a parliamentary candidate in the 2024 general election .
