Darrell Issa is an American businessman and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 48th congressional district. Born on November 1, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, Issa served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1980, achieving the rank of captain. He later co-founded Directed Electronics, a leading manufacturer of car security systems, and served as its CEO. Elected to Congress in 2000, he represented California's 49th district until 2019 and returned to office in 2021, representing the 50th district before moving to the 48th in 2023 .
Throughout his political career, Issa has been known for his advocacy of limited government, fiscal conservatism, and efforts to promote government transparency. He chaired the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee from 2011 to 2015, where he led investigations into various issues, including the Fast and Furious operation and the 2012 Benghazi attack .
