Chris Gabrieli is an influential American education reformer, entrepreneur, and public policy leader. Born on February 5, 1960, in Buffalo, New York, he graduated from Harvard College in 1981. Gabrieli co-founded GMIS, a healthcare software company, which he later sold to McKesson HBO. He then became a partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, focusing on biotechnology investments. In 1999, he shifted his focus to education, chairing a task force on after-school programs in Boston, which led to the establishment of Massachusetts 2020 and the National Center on Time & Learning. These initiatives aimed to expand learning time in schools serving disadvantaged students. Gabrieli is also the co-founder of Empower Schools, a nonprofit organization that partners with communities to redesign school systems for greater autonomy and accountability.
