Bobby Thomson

Bobby Thomson was a Scottish-American professional baseball player, best known for his pivotal role in one of the most iconic moments in Major League Baseball history. Born on October 25, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, Thomson moved to the United States at the age of two. He played as an outfielder and right-handed batter for several teams, including the New York Giants, Milwaukee Braves, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles.

Thomson's most memorable achievement came on October 3, 1951, when he hit a dramatic three-run home run off Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca during the third game of a three-game playoff series. This homer, known as the "Shot Heard 'Round the World", secured the National League pennant for the Giants and is considered one of the most famous moments in baseball history.

Reflecting on his career, Thomson remarked, "In New York, after that famous home run, they expected me to be up there every year. That homer raised me to a high level, with the top guys in the game." Despite the immense pressure following his iconic hit, Thomson remained grounded and continued to contribute to his teams throughout his career.
