Bobby Jindal (born June 10, 1971, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is an American politician who served as the 55th governor of Louisiana from 2008 to 2016. A member of the Republican Party, Jindal previously served as a U.S. representative from Louisiana from 2005 to 2008. He was the first Indian American to be elected governor of any U.S. state and the first non-white governor of Louisiana since P.B.S. Pinchback during Reconstruction. Jindal's tenure as governor was marked by efforts to reform healthcare, education, and tax policies, as well as his response to natural disasters like Hurricane Gustav in 2008.
