Bill Hagerty is an American politician, businessman, and diplomat currently serving as the junior U.S. Senator from Tennessee, a position he has held since January 2021. Born on August 14, 1959, in Gallatin, Tennessee, Hagerty earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Vanderbilt University. Before entering public office, he worked as a management consultant and served as a White House Fellow during the presidency of George H. W. Bush. He later co-founded Hagerty Peterson & Company, a private equity firm, and served as the 30th U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019 under President Donald Trump .
