Awkwafina, born Nora Lum on June 2, 1988, in Stony Brook, New York, is an American actress, rapper, and comedian known for her unique blend of humor and authenticity. Raised in Queens, she is of Chinese-American and Korean-American descent. Awkwafina gained initial fame in 2012 with her viral rap song “My Vag,” a parody response to Mickey Avalon's “My Dick,” which showcased her bold comedic style. She later released her debut album, Yellow Ranger, in 2014, and her second album, In Fina We Trust, in 2018 .
Her acting career took off with supporting roles in films like Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Ocean’s 8 (2018), and Crazy Rich Asians (2018). In 2019, she starred in The Farewell, earning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, making history as the first person of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe in a lead actress category . Awkwafina also co-created, wrote, and starred in the Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, which premiered in 2020 .

She once remarked, “I can't tell if I want to be a rapper who's funny because I kind of enjoy just doing really stupid songs about nothing. But I want to have a career that's long-lasting, and I don't think people want to listen to a straight-up comedy rapper all the time” .
