Amy Coney Barrett is an American attorney and jurist who has served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court since October 27, 2020. Born on January 28, 1972, in New Orleans, Louisiana, she is the fifth woman to hold a seat on the Court. Barrett graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College in 1994 and earned her Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 1997. She clerked for Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court. Following her clerkships, Barrett practiced law and later became a professor at Notre Dame Law School.
