Alexander Vindman
Alexander Vindman is an American author, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, and foreign policy expert best known for his role as a key witness during the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump in 2019. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1975, he immigrated to the United States as a child with his family and went on to serve with distinction in the U.S. Army, earning a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Iraq. His career combined military service with a focus on national security and international relations.
As an author, Vindman wrote the memoir Here, Right Matters: An American Story (2021), in which he recounts his journey from immigrant to decorated officer and public servant. The book emphasizes the importance of duty, integrity, and truth, offering readers both a personal narrative and a reflection on democratic values. His writing underscores the belief that standing up for what is right—even in the face of great personal risk—is essential to preserving the principles of American democracy.
Reflecting his outlook, Vindman has said: “Here, right matters.” He has also remarked: “The cost of doing nothing is far greater than the cost of speaking the truth.” These quotes capture his commitment to honor, accountability, and courage, principles that define both his military career and his work as an author.
