Miguel Díaz-Canel (born 1960) is a Cuban politician, leader, and author, best known for serving as the President of Cuba since 2018. Born in Placetas, Villa Clara Province, Cuba, he studied electrical engineering at the University of Camagüey before beginning his political career in the Communist Party of Cuba. Díaz-Canel rose through the party ranks, holding various governmental and party positions before becoming the first person outside the Castro family to lead Cuba in over five decades.
